SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Saratoga Race Course has ended its 150th season with its second highest all-sources handle while topping 1.1 million in attendance for the third consecutive year.
The New York Racing Association says the 40-day meet that ended Monday totaled $659 million from all sources, including nearly $149 million from on-track wagers. The track set a record for all-sources handle during the 2017 season with more than $676 million wagered.
Chad Brown, who grew up in nearby Mechanicville, captured the Saratoga training title with 46 wins, breaking his own record. Jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. won the riding title with 52 wins. Klaravich Stables was the meet’s leading owner with 21 wins.
NYRA held a ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday on a new, three-story building called the 1863 Club to replace the current At the Rail Pavilion and temporary trailers at the end of the clubhouse.
